Yoshiasu Tamura

Yoshiyasu Tamura is a manga artist. He gets his inspiration for his works from ukiyo-e and yamato-e (Japanese traditional painting styles). His objective is to find the common aesthetic between Japanese painting of the past and subcultures, such as modern manga and anime. He tries to rediscover what he calls the “real Japanese aesthetics”, which is born naturally from the people and free from the bounds of the authorities.

Representation of female figures is his dominant motif and concept. They appear in traditional kimonos and each has different eye colour, but never Asiatic in shape. They have fantastic hair set-ups even with super gadgets. These images are not portraits of actual females, but idealized characters. They are pop idols or sexual personae of the XXI century Japan.
