Gallery G-77 is pleased to introduce Akiko Kawabata to London for the first time at Affordable Art Fair Battersea Autumn 2026.

For her London debut, Gallery G-77 will present works from Kawabata’s new series UTAKATA – A World Like a Bubble, first presented at her solo exhibition in Kyoto.

Utakata is an old Japanese word for something fleeting, appearing and disappearing like a bubble. In these works, Kawabata explores moments when colour, form and fragments briefly come together before shifting again.

Working with collage, painting and mixed media, she layers and rearranges fragments of colour, images and materials through an intuitive process. Rather than trying to preserve a fleeting impression as it was, Kawabata gives it another form.

Her compositions move between abstraction and recognition. Something seems familiar, yet before it can fully become an image or a story, it begins to change again.

Gallery G-77 will present a selection of works from UTAKATA at Stand K6 in London.
