Gallery G-77 presents works by Hiroko Shiina at VOLTA Basel 2026.
Hiroko Shiina creates intricate and enigmatic worlds where the boundaries between reality, memory and dream become blurred. Drawing upon influences ranging from Japanese ukiyo-e and Kusozu paintings to Symbolist imagery, she constructs richly detailed compositions populated by floating figures, animals, plants and metamorphic forms.
Executed with ink, coffee, acrylic and coloured pencil, Shiina's works combine meticulous craftsmanship with a distinctive atmosphere of mystery and transformation. Through symbolic imagery and carefully orchestrated detail, she invites viewers into a parallel reality where beauty, desire, vulnerability and imagination coexist.
